- Governor Wes Moore is on the ballot, according to the Daily Record's September 2026 coverage. The governor proposes the state budget, which includes funding for Morgan State, Bowie State, Coppin State and UMES.

The underfunding letter
In 2023, the U.S. Departments of Education and Agriculture wrote to the governor of Maryland. Their numbers show University of Maryland Eastern Shore got about $321 million less in state money from 1987 to 2020 than it would have with the same per-student funding as the state's original land-grant university.
