The underfunding letter
In 2023, the U.S. Departments of Education and Agriculture wrote to the governor of Texas. Their numbers show Prairie View A&M University got about $1.1 billion less in state money from 1987 to 2020 than it would have with the same per-student funding as the state's original land-grant university.

HBCU news in Texas
A state audit released at the end of 2025 found serious problems with Texas Southern University's finances. In response, the governor, lieutenant governor and House speaker stopped TSU from spending on contracts other than what it needs to stay open, and a Texas Rangers investigation is ongoing. (kwtx.com)
