- The mayor's seat is open because Mayor Muriel Bowser is not running again, and 7 of 13 Council seats are on the ballot. The mayor and Council set the DC budget, including support for the University of the District of Columbia.

In June 2026, the DC Council restored $6 million of a proposed $10 million cut to the city's yearly support for the University of the District of Columbia. (dccouncil.gov)
