- Registration deadline
- Register at least 30 days before the election (the 30-day mark falls on October 4, 2026, so this deadline has passed). Online registration needs a South Carolina driver's license or DMV ID.
- Early voting
- Early voting runs October 19-31, 2026, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, closed Sunday October 25.
- Races to watch
- The governor's seat is open, with no incumbent running. Voters also choose a lieutenant governor, attorney general, state superintendent of education, all 124 state House seats and a U.S. senator. The state Senate is not on the ballot this year. The governor and legislature set funding for South Carolina State University.

The underfunding letter
In 2023, the U.S. Departments of Education and Agriculture wrote to the governor of South Carolina. Their numbers show South Carolina State University got about $470 million less in state money from 1987 to 2020 than it would have with the same per-student funding as the state's original land-grant university.
