You don't need to be an alum to show up for Miles College. Students need employers, mentors and people in the stands, and anyone can buy from the campus bookstore.

- Early voting
- Alabama has no early voting. Voters with an approved reason can vote absentee in person at the county Absentee Election Manager's office. Absentee applications delivered by hand are due Thursday, October 29, 2026, and hand-delivered ballots are due by 5 p.m. Monday, November 2.

- The governor's seat is on the ballot with no incumbent running, since Gov. Kay Ivey has served the maximum two consecutive terms. All 105 House and 35 Senate seats are also up, and the legislature sets the state's college budgets.

The underfunding letter
In 2023, the U.S. Departments of Education and Agriculture wrote to the governor of Alabama. Their numbers show Alabama A&M University got about $527 million less in state money from 1987 to 2020 than it would have with the same per-student funding as the state's original land-grant university.

In September 2026, the U.S. Department of Education sent a one-time $21.3 million to Alabama's 14 HBCUs, including about $2.9 million for Alabama State and $2.8 million for Alabama A&M. (fox10tv.com)
