- October 5, 2026 (deadline has passed). Online registration is available but no same-day registration was listed on the state site.

- No-excuse in-person absentee voting is October 29-31, 2026; excused in-person absentee voting runs October 21-28.
- Races to watch
- There is no governor's race in 2026. All 100 state House seats and 19 of 38 state Senate seats are on the ballot, along with an open U.S. Senate seat and U.S. House seats. The General Assembly sets state funding for Kentucky State University.

The underfunding letter
In 2023, the U.S. Departments of Education and Agriculture wrote to the governor of Kentucky. Their numbers show Kentucky State University got about $172 million less in state money from 1987 to 2020 than it would have with the same per-student funding as the state's original land-grant university.

In 2026, lawmakers passed Senate Bill 185, which makes Kentucky State University a four-year residential polytechnic school focused on technical, job-based learning, with fewer liberal arts programs and up to five years of extra financial oversight. (prichardcommittee.org)
